That old lead smell II

After another late night of painting, I give you another of my leaden children painted up (but not yet properly based):

    DEATHDEALER, DEALER OF DEATH!
This is the first time I have really tried to mimic another's art and not just go crazy and making it my own. I love the original Frazetta painting and wanted to try and emulate its grim tone, so no bright colors for me tonight! We're getting grim and gritty on this Ral Partha '77 classic!.

Cool painting right?? A classic. Sadly, the details on my miniature copy were a bit dull and worn-down, and his axe was broken and lost to the sands of time, so I had make my own and do my best and get a bit "Painterly" to add some texture to the model.

This model is as smooth as a baby's bottom, almost like it was sandblasted! I like to think that this was someone's favorite miniature at some point, and they carried it around with them (despite its leaden nature). Anyhow, once I got him all cleaned up, armed, and primed I got straight to work on the paint job! Sometimes I take for granted when a model has nice texture and I can cheat a bit here and there with a wash and drybrush, but oh no, not here, here I had to imagine the detail. That chainmail? Nearly undetectable, I had to do a bit of stippling to mimic the effect, and that bird on his shield? It was more like a suggestion of where a bird could  be than it being actually a sculpted detail. Any how, in a quick couple of hours I had my death dealer ready to lead his unit of chaotic knights! Here are some pictures of him with some different lighting. I hope you enjoy him like I did!

And here he is with some friends!

We need more depictions of  Death Dealer in film,
please tell me if you know of more...

    1. Thanks! I used another axe lying around and trimmed it down to match as best as I could!
